Championship club Sunderland are negotiating with French Ligue 1 side, RC Lens, to sign Ghana midfielder Salis Abdul Samed, according to reports from France.

French outlet L’Equipe states that discussions are underway, and the talks are progressing positively, indicating a promising outcome for the English second tier club.

Sunderland aim to strengthen their midfield options by bringing in the Ghanaian international, who has gained attention for his performances in the past two seasons.

Previously, Saint Etienne expressed interest in signing Samed, but Sunderland's proactive approach allowed them to step in ahead of the Ligue 1 club.

As a result, Saint Etienne shifted their focus towards acquiring Pierre Ekwah, highlighting Sunderland's opportunistic strategy in the transfer market.

Samed appeared in 35 games across all competitions.

However, he has yet to make an appearance in the current campaign after falling out of favour at the club, which presents Sunderland with a chance to utilize his skills effectively.
